Spring Games:

Spring Games is this Sunday! If you have an expired Medical Consent form please find our problem Registration and hand in an updated one. All of your Bracelets, Bibs, and Lunch Tickets will be waiting for you there. All Athletes are required to dress appropriately. NO JEANS!

Saturday:

Set up begins at 8am. Anyone who can make it to help us set up for Sunday will be a HUGE help.

Sunday:

Security Volunteers meet at the Paca Building at 7am

7:30am volunteers / spectators arrive

8am Athletes arrive to Track and Buddies to HS

Food Prep Volunteers to lunch tent at 6am

O.V Volunteers arrive at 10am to OV tent

Volunteer Assignments

Female Staging Volunteers look for the Green Flag that says Female in the Staging Area

Male Staging look for Green Flag that’s says Male in Staging Area

Shot Put Volunteers look for Maroon Flag in Field

Long Jumps Volunteers look for Long Jump Pit 9insde Track

Softball Throw Volunteers look for the Mint Green Flag in Field

Registration Volunteers in HS

Greeters in HS and waiting outside Athlete Parking and at Shuttle drop off

Young Athlete Volunteers look for the Orange flag in the Field

Brookhaven FD and UPS to do security meet at Paca

Raffle Volunteers to Bleachers

Officials park in VIP Lot and meet at Track

All Volunteers must park at the HS, check in at the HS, and then take a Shuttle Bus to your Posts.

Coaches and parents will not be allowed inside the fence of the Track. There will be Volunteers who will walk all of our Athletics Athletes from Staging to the Starting Line. Once the race is complete the Athletes will be escorted directly to Awards. If you would like to watch the Awards there will be bleachers outside the fence on the South Side of the Track. After the Awards are presented to our Athletes they will be escorted out of the Track where all Coaches and Parents will be waiting for their Athletes to congratulate them on their Races and Awards.

Warren Fletcher:

Our very own Warren Fletcher will be the recipient of the:

EP Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award

At Disability Awareness Night at Shea Stadium on June 25.

Anyone who has met Warren knows that this award could not be given to a more deserving person. Warren is an amazing man who has devoted his life to helping others and all of us here at Special Olympics are extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to work with him over the last 20 years. Warren is an invaluable representative and member of our organization and we are overjoyed to share in recognition at Shea Stadium. There may be some tickets available at our office for this event, but we urge everyone to go out make sure you are there on the 25 to show Warren your appreciation. Congratulation Warren!!!!!

Dix Hills Golf:

We are ready to begin our second golf season!

Our official start date is Tuesday night, May 20th from 6pm to 8pm.

Great Neck Basketball TOURNAMENT:

The Great Neck Basketball Tournament is on June 8th

All registration forms must be returned by May 30th

All training clubs are required to register in advance. Please submit the following information to Special Olympics New York-Long Island Region no later than May 30, 2008:

· Completed Athlete & Coaches registration forms, including alternates

· All Coaches are required to have in their possession AT ALL TIMES updated medical and Consent forms for each Athlete

2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games :

2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games is looking for qualified Volunteer Officials and Coaches. If you are interested in applying to be an Official the positions are for Alpine Skiing, Figure Skating, Snowboarding, Floor Hockey or Speedskating. The Coaching positions are (sport specific) for Alpine, Cross Country, Figure Skating, Snowboarding, Snowshoeing, Speed Skating.

* Team USA will NOT be selecting a Head Coach for Floor Hockey through this application process.

Please fill out the appropriate application attached and send it in to the office via mail, fax or email.

Equestrian Volunteers Needed:

Special Olympics New York Long Island Region is about to begin it’s Equestrian training and we need Volunteers to help out at some training locations. If you are interested in helping out on Tuesday or Thursday nights or Saturday days please contact our office.
