Special Olympics New York Long Island Region Weekly Update

 

Special Olympics Long Island Coaches and Volunteers,  I hope all of you are enjoying the Holiday Season as well as Winter Training. We are currently in the process of securing a Rink for Figure Skating and Speed Skating. We have not locked down a practice time yet but it seems likely that the training will be on Wednesdays. If you are interested in attending or know an Athlete who might want to train in either of these two sports please contact me in the office at 631 254 1465 Ext. 13 or email me atcreisig@nyso.org.   Have a great Holiday, I hope to see you all soon.   Javits Floor Hockey Tournament   NYC Javits Floor Hockey Tournament will be held on January 10, 2009. They will be offering Skills and Team Competition. All Long Island teams are invited. Javits is one of the biggest Winter Events and we would love to see everyone there. Coaches please send in your Registrations and Rosters. If you do not send the office a complete Training Club Roster you can NOT attend Javits and will NOT be placed in the running for State Games. Please send both forms into the office ASAP. Sectional Ski Event   The Sectional Ski Event will be held on January 24, 2009 at West Mountain in Glen Falls. Long Island has Athletes participating in this event and they would love to see you there supporting them while they compete. If you would like more information on this event please contact the Long Island Office. Coaches please send in your Registrations and Training Club Rosters ASAP. If you do not hand in a complete Roster you will NOT be able to attend the Ski Event and will NOT in the running for State Games. Winter State Games   Special Olympics New York State Winter Games will be held February 6-8, 2009. We are currently in the selection process to see which Training Clubs will be attending the Event in Rochester. If you are a Coach and have not sent in a Training Club Roster you are NOT in the running to attend this Event. Please give your Athletes a chance to compete in this event by sending in a Roster ASAP.    I will sending out Registration Forms and Rosters to all Winter Coaches again today. Coaches, please complete both forms and hand them in ASAP or you will NOT be eligible to attend any events. Nov. 13, 2008  Long Island Weekly Update        Greetings!   The 2008 year has come to an end and we want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for all of your support. Long Island had close to 30 events this year with 4 new competitions, and none of them would have been possible without all of you.  I know with your help we can continue to grow while still offering the highest quality of competition. Good work everyone and congratulations on such a successful year!  Long Island Winter Coaches Conference   Casey Reisig  Winter Coaches Conference Long Island Special Olympics Winter Coaches Conference will be at Stony Brook University on November 23, 2008 from 9AM - 2PM. We will be offering CPR as a recertification tool, followed by General Sessions for new Coaches and a Floor Hockey Sport Training School taught by Glen Manaker for all other Coaches. This clinic is open to everyone no matter if you train in Softball or not. Special Olympics Long Island Weekly Update    October 21, 2008     In This Issue Bocce Hofstra Softball Clinic 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament Floor Hockey   Coaches / Volunteers / Parents / Athletes, Welcome to the Winter Season! I hope you are all beginning your training soon. There will be a Coaches Conference at the end of November with CPR and First Aide Training for ALL Coaches no matter what sport you are certified in. This is a re-certification tool that ALL Coaches should take advantage of. The conference will also have updated rules and regulations that effect everyone no matter if you coach in the Winter Season or not. See you there.   Sincerely,   Casey Reisig Special Olympics New York Long Island Region   Long Island Bocce Tournament 2008   Sunday October 26th 10-2 PM Mill Dam Park Huntington NY    Long Islands first Bocce Tournament is this Sunday and you are all invited to come out and enjoy the competition. There will be 3 State Games Gold Medalist in the competition so come down and Cheer on our Champions!     Hofstra Softball Clinic  The Hofstra University Softball Team will be holding a clinic for our Special Olympics Athletes.  It will involve drills, skills, and a scrimmage amongst the players.   Please let me know how many of your athletes will be able to attend this great event!   Saturday Nov. 22nd 11 -  2 PM Hofstra University   2008 Floor Hockey Tournament   December 7th Lawrence High School    Special Olympics New York- Long Island Region will be hosting the Long Island Region Floor Hockey Tournament at Lawrence High School on Sunday, December 7th, 2008.  All athletes and coaches must pre-register for this event.  The registration deadline is Thursday December 4th, 2008.  Registration materials have been sent to Coaches and will be available at the Coaches Conference.   Three On Three Basketball Tournament   Tuesday Nov. 4th Islip Town Hall  Islip, NY Volunteers Needed   There are 2 different volunteering opportunities available. We are in need of Fans in the Stands and Olympic Village Booths.
